Gabbeh rugs are woven with love and stories. Legend has it that these Persian rugs were originally made by the Qashqai people, a nomadic tribe in southern Iran.
Gabbeh, meaning "rough" or "coarse" in Persian, reflects the rug's simple, natural beauty. Each knot tells a story of the weaver's life, emotions, and surroundings. Some say the designs depict flowers, animals, or everyday scenes, while others see abstract patterns that evoke feelings and moods.
One story behind a Gabbeh rug might be about a young shepherdess who wove her favorite patterns into the rug while waiting for her flock to graze. As she worked, she poured her hopes, dreams, and memories into every knot. When finished, the rug became a reflection of her soul.
